Reviewing the 2025 Jaguars

Jaguars Division Champs

2025 was an unexpectedly great season for the Jaguars. Most had projected them as a team that had the potential to win anywhere from 7-10 games, but they far exceeded that with 13, finishing the regular season on a dominant 8-game winning streak.

After blowing a 29-10 lead against the Texans in week 11, things began to look dire for the Jaguars, especially without their first round pick in the 2026 NFL draft, but they quickly turned their season around, changing the narrative and giving hope for the present and future.

In the first 9 games, there were plenty of up-and-down's for the Jaguars. They won 4 of their first 5 games, with the most the notable being a home victory against the reigning AFC South winning Houstan Texans, a road victory against the San Francisco 49ers, and a come from behind win on Monday Night Football against the reigning AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs.

After this hot start, they began to cool off, losing two straight games against the NFC powerhouses in the Seahawks and Rams. The Rams loss in particular, as the Jaguars were dominated from start to finish in a 35-7 blowout heading into the bye week. Coming out of the bye week, the Jaguars did not look much better, sqeaking out a 30-29 win against an abysmal Raiders team.

The following week is when everything began to look bleak, as the Jaguars would blow a 29-10 lead against a 3-5 Texans team that was starting Davis Mills at quarterback. Trevor Lawrence was still playing at an average level, Travis Hunter was injured for the rest of the season, the defense was a mess, and the Jaguars did not own their 2026 first round pick. A 4-1 start was beginning to look like another lost season.

What happened the following week was a total shock. The Jaguars dominated the 7-3 Chargers 35-6 to improve to 6-4, giving a new outlook on the season. Against the Cardinals the next week, it was more of the same. Trevor Lawrence had 4 turnovers and the defense was all over the place, but the Jaguars squeaked out a 27-24 overtime win.

Over the next three games, the Jaguars would have the easiest stretch of the season, and they would cruise in all three games, winning by an average of 22 points per game. Trevor Lawrence was playing at an MVP level, and they were now in first place in the AFC South. Sitting at 10-4 and winning 5 straight, the big test was against the Denver Broncos in Mile High stadium. Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars made a statement, winning 34-20 and putting the AFC on notice.

In week 17, they would win a close game against the Colts, revealing some of the underlying problems that would foreshadow later in the playoffs. Against the Titans in the final week of the season, the Jaguars handled business, cruising to a 41-7 win to win the AFC South, as well as winning the second most games in franchise history with 13.

Round one of the playoffs would be the biggest test of the season. Josh Allen and the Bills would be no easy victory, but the Jaguars had shown all season they could play with anybody. In a back-and-forth game that went down to the wire, the Bills emerged victorious, ending an unexpectedly magical season for the Jaguars.
