3 takeaways from Jaguars Vs Colts

3 takeaways week 14

The Jaguars defeated the Colts at home for the 10th straight season in dominant fashion, winning 36-19 and taking control of the AFC South. Now sitting at 9-4, they control their own destiny in the division.

Trevor Lawrence is heating up

Over the last three games, Trevor Lawrence has thrown 7 touchdown passes after having 11 through the first 10 games. His aggression downfield has yielded great results over the last weeks, making splash plays without the turnovers, and it has led to two straight blowout wins.

Trevor's downfield passing has come alive late in the season, completing 12 passes of 15 or more yards in the air over the last games. This vertical element also comes through many forms, with Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, and Tim Patrick Jr. all catching multiple passes downfield. Liam Coen said he wanted Lawrence to "let it rip," and he certainly has, which has made the Jaguars offense considerably tougher to slow down.

The Jaguars control their own destiny

The Jaguars now sit atop the AFC South with a 9-4 record, one game ahead of the Houston Texans at 8-5. With games against the Colts, Jets, and Titans, the Jaguars could very well finish far above people's expectations and finish with 11 or 12 wins. If the Jaguars were to win out, they would finish at a minimum of the third seed with a home playoff game in round 1.

Liam Coen has changed everything

Liam Coen's new-age offensive system has completely turned around a once dead and outdated offense. But more importantly, he has instilled confidence and total buy-in from the locker room. After a tough loss against the Texans back in week 10, Liam Coen talked about how he told quarterback Trevor Lawrence to "Go cut it loose. Let it rip." Since then, Lawrence has played his best football, and the Jaguars have averaged 30 points a game. After the most recent game against the Colts, running back Travis Etienne talked about the mentality Liam Coen instills and its effect on the team.

Liam Coen has brought new life into a locker room that has seen it all over the last few seasons. His offensive philosophy and aggression show every week, and he has total belief from all the players in the locker room. In his first season, he is making a strong case to win the coach of the year award.
