What the Jourdan Lewis injury means for the Jaguars

Jourdan Lewis Injury

Late in the fourth quarter against the Denver Broncos, Jourdan Lewis suffered a foot injury that knocked him out of the game. It was later announced on Christmas Day that he would be out for the remainder of the season, requiring surgery on his injured foot. This is a big blow to an already thin secondary, but the Jaguars have been here before, adopting the next-man-up mentality all season.

From weeks 10-13, Jourdan Lewis did not play due to injury, and the Jaguars defense had mixed results. In week 10 they allowed 36 points to the Texans, then followed it up with a shutdown performance against the Chargers, allowing just 6 points, but then reverted back to the norm, allowing 24 points to the Cardinals. Since Lewis returned from injury, the Jaguars are allowing just 15.5 points per game.

Jarrian Jones stepped in Lewis's place and played well, and now he will have another opportunity to fill his shoes. Jones has played well at the nickel position, allowing a 74.8 passer rating on the season, and most recently made the big interception that seemingly ended the Broncos chances of a comeback in week 16. With two games to go in the regular season, Anthony Campanile will have some adjustments to make heading into the playoffs.
